National Reconciliation Week 2022

Since 1993, National Reconciliation Week (NRW) has been held annually from May 27 to June 3 in commemoration of two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey, the 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

It is a time for all Australians to celebrate and educate each other about our shared histories, cultures, and ongoing achievements, and to explore how we can all contribute and achieve reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for NRW 2022, Be Brave. Make Change, urges Australians to be brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for a better, kinder and more understanding future. It is a theme that has special meaning for Wrapped Creations, as an Aboriginal owned and operated company that specialises in planning culturally-conscious events all year round: for us, ‘being brave’ means embracing diversity and engaging in meaningful, yet sometimes-difficult conversations, about our differences. This follows on from the 2021 theme, which encouraged Australians to consider and take action towards reconciliation on a daily basis, not just during NRW.

This year, we have joined with Reconciliation WA to plan, organise and execute a range of culturally safe events, including the annual WA NRW Breakfast, Walk for Reconciliation and Reconciliation Memoirs with Fred Chaney.

For the first time ever, the NRW Breakfast will be a virtual event, hosted by the WA Museum Boola Bardip and broadcast to more than one million attendees across the state. The event is free to attend and will include a Welcome to Country performed by Elders across the state, cultural entertainment, a keynote presentation by Wiradjuri man and renowned Australian journalist Stan Grant, and panel discussion with guests from across our regions.
